DOCWEEK MIDDLEBURG

Tom Foster, founder and director of DocWeek said: “DocWeek’s films this year covered a range of topics and left the assembled sold-out crowd in laughter, tears, and animated conversations. There was even polite political discourse, something many of us haven’t seen for a while. Photo by Donna Strama.

DocWeek Middleburg concluded on a high note after five fabulous films with MUSICA! The film brought Cuba to town. The musicians of that country were brought to light in the film from Oscar-winning filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman as they focused on the life of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. The story about the prestigious music school’s struggle to provide and maintain instruments for its students and the efforts of the New York based charity, “Horns to Havana,” to keep the music alive. All of it topped off at the Middleburg Community Center with live music that included two of the featured musicians AND a Cuban inspired meal by Neal Wavra of Field & Main in Marshall for the Patron’s Party.  And, Laurie Volk of White Post noted: “I’ve attended many film festivals over the years, from Sundance in Park City to the Berlinale in Germany, and many in my hometown of Los Angeles. With DocWeek, Tom Foster has brought the same quality and impact to tiny Middleburg, all in one venue.” Photo by Donna Strama.
